How LoonieLedger Calculates Your Numbers
Last updated: 2026-08-06
Every tool on this site runs on the same set of published figures — the federal and provincial income tax brackets, CPP/QPP contribution rates, GST/HST/PST rates, and the CRA mileage rate for the current year. This page lists where each figure comes from, so you can verify them yourself rather than taking our word for it.
Federal income tax
Federal tax brackets and the Basic Personal Amount (BPA), including its high-income phase-out, come from the CRA's published current and historical income tax rates for individuals.
Provincial and territorial income tax
Each province and territory's own brackets and Basic Personal Amount come from the same CRA rates page, except Quebec — since Quebec collects its own provincial tax independently, its brackets and BPA come directly from Revenu Québec, and our calculator applies the federal abatement Quebec residents receive on their basic federal tax.
CRA – Canadian income tax rates for individuals · Revenu Québec – Income tax rates
CPP and QPP contributions
Canada Pension Plan rates, the Year's Maximum Pensionable Earnings, the basic exemption, and the CPP2 second-tier rate and ceiling come from the CRA's payroll deductions pages. Quebec Pension Plan figures, including the QPP2 second additional plan, come directly from Retraite Québec.

GST, HST, PST, and QST rates
Sales tax rates for every province and territory, and which combination of GST/HST/PST applies where, come from the CRA's own rate-and-place-of-supply guidance.
CRA mileage rate
The per-kilometre reference rate (and the territory bonus) used by the mileage log tool comes from the CRA's motor vehicle expenses guidance for sole proprietors — see our guide on why this published rate isn't the same thing as a self-employed vehicle expense deduction.
How we verify these figures
Because canada.ca blocks most automated fetching, every figure on this page was checked by hand against at least two independent references (the CRA source above plus a secondary confirmation) rather than pulled from a single source. Figures are re-verified whenever the CRA publishes updated annual numbers, typically each fall for the following tax year.
